The Seva Charity Golf Classic, formerly known as the Sikh Business And Professional Club (SBPC) Tournament, is a charity tournament held annually in support of the Guru Nanak Dev Ji Vision Clinic at the Children’s Hospital.
The Vision Clinic at the Alberta Children’s Hospital was named after Guru Nanak Dev Ji for his humanitarianism and teachings of kindness, compassion, unity and generosity – values applicable to all of society. These principals and the spirit of sharing blessings with others are closely aligned with the meaning of “SEVA” – the act of selfless service.
The Guru Nanak Dev Ji Vision Clinic at the Alberta Children’s Hospital is a major referral centre for pediatric eye diseases in Western Canada, and experts here deal with some of the most complex and difficult childhood eye disease cases. Their research activities are cutting edge – initiating new developments in pediatric cataract surgery, using laser refractive surgery in children for childhood glaucoma, cancers of the eye, and retinal disease related to prematurity. Our health care professionals are active educators, teaching medical students and pediatric residents, and they have a subspecialty training program in Pediatric Opthalmology for Opthalmologists.
It is our goal to continue to strengthen the expertise and success of the Vision Clinic by investing funds raised at the Seva Charity Golf Classic into innovative programs and equipment for the clinic. It is our hope you will join us in these efforts as an event sponsor, donor or player. Please see the attached document, which outlines the opportunities available, and contact me directly for more information.
